Scoria

One of our favourite designers (oh there are so many) has recently featured Scrumptious 4ply in a stunning design for The Knitter Magazine. The pattern is featured in Issue 46 for those of you who would love to knit it up and of course, there are lots of colours to create it in on the Fyberspates website.

Scoria is a garment that is worked bottom up and in pieces. Kyoko says she normally favours circular knitting but the horizontal lace and herringbone pattern needed this flat construction. It's a delicate piece that is stylish and will suit many different body types.

The lace is worked first and then blocked before stitches are then picked up and worked upwards. The garment features a biased neckband which is worked in the round before being blocked and attached at the end. This gives a sophisticated and structured feel to the whole garment.

Kyoko told us that the inspiration comes from moving volcanic lava and contrast hard rocks around it. The aim was to create something feminine and mysterious and the texture of Scrumptious yarn and the shimmer that it brings to the garment enabled Kyoko to really push her volcanic vision to the full.

Medallion-Edged Shrug

This month's Knit.Wear magazine from Interweave press features a beautiful and feminine shrug pattern using Scrumptious Lace. Katya Frankel designed this sweet raglan cardigan and the detail of the medallion lace edging is beautiful.

Worked from the top down seamlessly, this cardigan requires only one skein of Scrumptious Lace so is the perfect treat for a small purchase. The medallion lace edging is added after the body of the cardigan is finished and the cardigan is designed to be worn open.

Scrumptious Laceweight yarn adds a delicate touch and the sample is worked in the 'Purple' colourway, a deep and classic colourway for stunning finished items. Scrumptious Lace is a soft and shiny lace weight yarn with 45% Silk and 55% Merino. Available in 100g skeins of 1000m/1093yds it is a little bit of affordable luxury at £15.00. Simply Knitting May 2012

We have spotted another fantastic design in Fyberspates yarn, this time our lustrous Nef Lace. Nef Lace is 1312 yards of a stunning blend of 70% Alpaca, 20% Silk, 10% Cashmere so will knit up to give beautiful drape and softness. This delicate scarf only uses 1 skein and so is ideal for some stash busting or a special purchase if you've been dying to try out this yarn.

The scarf was designed for a regular feature in Simply Knitting magazine called 'Have a Ball' which is a challenge to design stashbusting pieces with just 1 100g skein. It features a chevron lace pattern created by a simple four-row lace repeat. The scarf is designed by Lynne Tuck and can be found in this month's issue of Simply Knitting Magazine (Issue 92, May 2012). Let's Get Crafting

In this months issue of Let's Get Crafting magazine you will find us featured on their yarn shopping page. The issue was released on 13th April 2012 and features our Blue Faced Leicester silk lace weight. The skeins come in 800m hanks and are priced at £15. These skeins are perfect for delicate shawls and scarves as we hope the weather cheers up a bit for Spring.

I'm featured!

I was very honoured recently to be featured as part of a year long focus on women demonstrating great business savvy being held on the 'A Playful Day' blog. 12 women in 12 is a year long feature focussing on women in the industry making a difference to the way in which we view crafts.

 
When I was asked to talk through what it takes to make a yarn business an international success I of course jumped at the chance to share the story. Fyberspates has grown as a brand and to see all my hard work celebrated was so exciting. I have had a sneaky peek at the line up and I feel very honoured to be part of such an amazing bunch of women.

 
The feature tells the story of how I grew the company from a small hand dyeing business to the widely known brand it is now.
